McHenry County Farmland is a Proven Tax Value!

Farmland is a good tax value for communities

  • Nationwide, for every $1 in property tax paid by a farm, the community spends approximately 20 cents to provide services to that property. For residential development, for every $1 collected, the community spends between $1.20 and $1.50 to provide services like schools, roads, police and fire protection. (According to American Farmland Trust Cost of Community Services studies.)
  • Farmland generates revenues from taxes (it pays more than it costs for services), while developed land costs communities/county more than the revenues they generate.
